    I have trouble deciding which social media I want to use for my business. A lot of comments are so silly and too much about one’s personal lives. I don’t want to do this. My main problem is content.

    I think the best thing I learned today is the use of youtube. I would like to learn how to use it because I think my workshop business could be very inviting on youtube. There were many things I learned today on your video.

    • Hi Mandy and thank you for your comment! Yes, your workshops can absolutely be on YouTube… or, add the first few minutes of the video on YouTube (like a top takeaway from the workshop) then invite people back to your website to buy access to the full video. Since you’re offering a paid workshop I think this is totally appropriate. Knowing your business, I suggest you to be on Facebook (as a business page), LinkedIn, YouTube and Google+. xo

  2. My biggest struggle is the time it takes to make a post. Need to get over feeling like it has to be “perfect”

    One take away I got from today’s training is the type of posts to make…inspirational and educational. I feel like that is what I do MOST of the time. Although I did post a TBT photo on FB last Thursday, because I felt like I should be a little bit more personal/likable every now and then. Thoughts?

    • Kim – First, thank you for your time in watching today. Second, you made such a great point. You’re right that there is no need to make it “perfect” because that delays us from impacting people with our message. You can always go back later to delete or edit a post so that’s the good news. But as long as you are rooted in an intention to offer value to others, your posts will be just perfect anyway. 🙂 And yes, mixing in some personal posts is a good idea to build rapport like I mentioned. Just make sure the priority (if you’re trying to build your following and market your ‘business’) is to post most of the time about your brand or inspiration that ties into your brand and reaches your target market. 🙂

  3. My biggest struggles are consistency and engagement and they’re kind of related. I know I should be consistent but when I keep posting and have no engagement I sometimes get to the point of why bother. My biggest takeaway would be to try to engage on someone’s page that I don’t know. I engage in some industry groups but hadn’t thought of just picking someone and trying it that way.

    • Thank you Quay for your time and very valuable comment. You bring up an excellent point that it is very defeating when you are just getting your feet really wet – that moment before you really feel like you’re “seen” online – and it seems like you’re putting out great content but no one cares. BOY…. BEEN THERE!!! And, sometimes I still feel that way! But, I keep preaching lately how entrepreneurs go 80% and stop because they don’t see results, when if they just kept going that last 20% the results would start pouring in. Remember what I said about “building momentum” – you’re in serious building mode. Keep going until people do hear your message and are paying attention – then it’s time to ramp up once again. Keep believing. I already see the progress you’re making from here and it’s going to pay off!!!

    I’m not convinced that my target market is that into social media. If I believe that my market is on Facebook, YouTube, and Google+, do I really need to have a presence on the other sites? I agree that Google+ is where things will be in the future. I realized that I just linked a blog post on FB and totally didn’t ask for any engagement, Aack. This was great Amber, thank you!

    • Deanna – I think the younger, more recent start-up dentists are going to be on social media for sure. The older crowd that’s been around for a long time? Not so much – you’re right – but some will be if they know they need to change with the times. Start-ups learn very quickly that social media is the answer (even if they don’t know how to use it yet). I think you’d be best served on LinkedIn, then Google+, and then Facebook (where I don’t expect much engagement to start, but I think because it’s the #1 social network, it’s wise to be on it). I’d search for dentists who are at the top of their game, making it happen on social media (because the other newer dentists will watch what this person does and try to follow the lead). Then I’d infiltrate that network, as well as the next top leaders. Then the rest will follow. Hope that helps and thank you again for listening today! 🙂

  5. The biggest struggle … is indeed the question if my market are already on social media. LinkedIn yes, and from the social media LinkedIn referral is the largest for me. But Facebook, not so much interaction there on the page. Google+ still not sure what to do with it, hear you being quite convinced about Google+. Will check it out more and become more active. Useful tips, the balance of inspiration and education might be revisited for me 😉

    • Thank you for that comment Peter! Yes, I think you’ll see much more traction on LinkedIn, then Google+ and Twitter actually. Collaboration is huge on Twitter. I’d invest your time on those 3. Having a presence on Facebook can’t hurt you – but if I had to pick 3 for you it’d be those. 🙂

      • Interesting Amber that you order them that way. So I have to re-order social media priorities. There might have been too much focus on the FB page till now, hmm good one to think about and take action. Thanks.

  6. At times I still struggle with what to share in updates on LinkedIn. Personal Profiles VS Company Profile.

    My biggest take away would be “to be consistent” in my posting/updates. And to have a call to action in each of them. – Without a pitch or sales push.

    • Thank you so much for watching today Fiona!! I would suggest writing 2-1 or 3-1 on your personal page vs your company. So for every 2-3 posts you make on your personal profile, you can make one on your business profile. LinkedIn is much more about individuals, but it’s good to keep up the consistency on your company page too. 🙂 xoxo

  7. This was great, thanks Amber. I loved the tip about putting a call to action in your posts; that’s something I need to do more of. My struggle is finding time with maintaining relationships across all of the networks – especially Linkedin. I have so many connections I know I’m not utilizing nearly as much as I should be. I probably need to delegate engagement more!

    • Hey Sandra – That’s great! Awareness is huge, an delegation is very smart too. The key is to teach your assistant or whomever proper engagement or hire a pro. These are your contacts and potential work partners/clients so they must be treated well. Glad I could offer a reminder and thank you so much for your time in listening! 🙂

  8. Amber, this was an awesomely timed video for me. I’m wondering about posting to social media sites and whether or not I’m making an impact. I try to post consistently. I use HootSuite to do so. What I’m not doing is leveraging other people’s networks. I am like the wallflower at the dance. No one will notice whether I’m there or not.

    I am definitely going to download your book and print it out. I need all the help I can get.

    • Oh YAY Vicki!! I am so glad to hear that!! 🙂 You have to keep posting and trusting that the engagement and following will come. It’s like pushing a big boulder – it takes time to get it going but once you do… it’ll roll fast and forever if you keep its momentum up. But also, really engage in other pages that have bigger networks – socialize and communicate to leverage their following and make it your own – just like you mentioned. As for the wallflower comment lol… I am the kind of person that thinks we get the result we think about most or believe. So try catching yourself when you think it won’t work or it isn’t working and adjust the thought to say that it will work in time. Just keep doing what you’re doing or read through the eBook I’m about to send you and implement what you know you need to work on. It took me a while before I felt like someone finally cared or listened. Just do what you know works (from people like me who know it works and is teaching you) and you too, will get the same result. 🙂

  9. Loved this tube post on social media Amber. So jammed with great information. I really like learning about Google Plus and how effective it can be to increase search engine visibility. I haven’t really considered Google Plus until I saw your post today.

    Thanks for this helpful information. I’m still learning all I can about the social media options. My SM experiences so far have been on personal accounts and also promoting things at the church where I am a staff minister. But I also have a grief counseling business that I’m looking to promote this year. So I will be looking for good ways to keep these separate but still effective for my different audiences. Thanks!

  11. Hey Amber… great video. My biggest struggle is not having enough time to post different types of content across the various platforms. I’m creating a master inventory of content and I’m going to have Cindy take leadership on posting daily. Lets see how that goes.

    • I hear that Landon! But the thing I want to share is that this is THE biggest, fastest way to grow a following to get your message out. I’d say if there was one thing to make time for it’s social media. I encourage you to also look at doing the social media yourself (even though I know time is tight) because you’ll get more of a connection with people which fuels the conversation and ultimately leads to more sales. If someone does your social media for you, that person will feel the engagement and it won’t offer you nearly the result you’d hope for. There are many experts who promote the “hire out everything” but I’m not one of them! lol. This is one of those things I suggest you falling in love with if you can. Of course there are always special circumstances and hope to not cross a line saying all of this, but just my experience that I wanted to share. 🙂 THANK YOU for watching and I can’t wait until March when I get to interview you in front of everyone! 🙂

  12. Hey Amber, thank you so much for this training. I loved how concisely this was laid out and easy to follow.
    My biggest struggle has been the time consumption and not being confident about what content to post on each particular site. I’ve been growing in my comfort level over the past month or two and this training was the perfect kick start for me.
    My biggest take away from this video was the reminder to create a schedule, be dedicated to it and have a steady flow of both educational and inspirational content.

  13. Amber, what a lovely video. I’m eager to read the eBook. My biggest challenge with social media is to learn more about exactly what you do! What networks would be best for my business, how to use them, etc.

    I especially want to understand how information or value content can be spread to many destinations. I’d like to harness the value of one excellent piece of information and minimize how much, how often, I’m posting. I hope that makes sense – a mass send idea versus logging into network after network.

    • Hi Jean and thank you for watching this video! For you, I suggest you to be on Facebook and Google+ primarily. I think YouTube would offer you a lot of traction as well. You’d use them just as I suggested in the video – post educational and inspirational content. Add value, speak from the heart, engage with your network and build relationships. To share your content on many destinations, you can use a service like Hootsuite.com or just copy the post and go to the next social network, and post in the content there. I agree, you want to maximize your content and share across all platforms vs constantly trying to create new content. Happy to work more with you on this during our block of time together! 🙂

Nancy and I are good with people in conversation. How exactly to have that conversation on a social network that is useful to both business and customer is a task few know how to explain well.   15. Thanks a lot Amber! The video is really great. My biggest struggle with social media so far was to be consisnent with the work. I used to write something for a couple of days/weeks and then I usually got tired and stopped for a week or more. Now I see why I should be consistent – why I should have a plan of posts and stick to it – and I feel inspired by your idea of two kinds of content “educational and inspiring”. So I hope I will manage to be more consistent with posting. And whats my biggest gain? The idea of leverage. I’ve never thought if this before. Geat tip!
