What Most Authors Don’t Know About Launching a Bestselling Book (Until It’s Too Late)

After 1,000+ bestseller launches, Amber Vilhauer breaks down the 6 phases every author needs. Most skip straight to Phase 5 and wonder why their book stalls.

What if the reason most book launches fail has nothing to do with the book itself?

Most authors I talk to come in the same way.

They want to hit the New York Times list, or at least hit Bestseller. They want their message to reach people. They’ve poured years into writing this thing, and now they’re ready. The only problem is that they don’t know what they don’t know.

They’re hoping they won’t have to do much marketing.
They’re assuming people will just find the book.
They have no idea what a book launch actually involves, how much time it takes, or what it costs.

And that’s not a criticism. It’s just the facts of the situation.
You can’t know what you haven’t been taught yet and that’s exactly why I made this video.

The 6 Phases of a Book Launch:

I want you to go in eyes wide open, because a book launch is one of the most powerful things you will ever do for your business, your platform, and your legacy. And I don’t want you to blow it.

Here are the six phases I walk you through:

Phase 1: Platform

Before anything else, your platform needs to be ready. That means a branded website with clear messaging, solid positioning, a mapped out customer journey, and a marketing operation that isn’t held together with bubble gum and band aids. If your platform is wobbly, you’ll miss the opportunity to convert all that launch exposure into loyal followers and long-term clients. Build the foundation first.

Phase 2: Growth

Your following and your network are two different things, and both matter. Your following is full of fans and future customers. Your network is your colleagues, podcast hosts, community leaders, collaborators. The bigger and more intentional your network before launch, the bigger your launch can be.

Phase 3: Relationship Management

This is the phase most authors have never heard of, and it’s one of the most important. This is where you activate your network to promote your launch. Live streams, endorsements, bulk orders, speaking invitations, email list promotions, reviews. The people in your network become the engine behind your campaign week.

Phase 4: Monetization

This is where you build the revenue strategy around your book, whether that’s a companion course, a group coaching program, a mastermind, or a virtual workshop invitation. These decisions get made early so that everything you build leads somewhere intentional on the other side of launch day.

Phase 5: Launch

The two month countdown. Email marketing, social media, live streaming, podcasting, Amazon optimization. There is a whole sequence of activities that needs to happen in the right order at the right time. This is exactly what my Bestseller Book Launch Blueprint program walks you through in detail.

Phase 6: Scale

The work doesn’t stop at launch. This is where you debrief, build your longevity plan, consider a relaunch, start a podcast, go after bulk distribution through corporate and associations, and use the bestseller title you just earned to springboard into speaking, media, and more. That title is yours to keep forever, by the way.

Here’s what I want you to consider after watching this week’s video:

A book launch is the fastest way to scale your following, your revenue, your Impact, and your legacy. All of it is available to you right now. But only if you go in with a real strategy and enough runway to execute it properly.
