When I was 16, I used my voice to stand up for someone who was being mistreated. That same night, I was jumped by five girls at a party. As a kid who didn’t know better, I created a belief that shaped the next 20 years of my life: when I use my voice, bad things happen.
That single misinterpreted experience led me to hide.Â
To stay small.Â
To strategically position myself to the side of the spotlight while building a company that grew around me.
And I genuinely believed I was doing the right thing.
Until I couldn’t grow past a certain point.
Until projects stopped getting completed quickly.
Until I realized that my resistance to being seen was the very thing keeping me from the Impact I said I wanted to make.
